I was watching a holiday movie this weekend. In this Christmas movie a woman was creating ornaments by handwriting sayings she loved on individual ornaments. A specific ornament read, “Every Day is a Second Chance.” I thought this is truly a Christmas message.
Many of us celebrate Christmas each year buying gifts, sharing food, enjoying friends and relatives, while listening to the same annual story of a baby being born in a manger. The Christmas story tells us a savior, a Divine gift, a redeemer is born to teach us that each human has a new chance at life no matter how many times have previously experienced failure. This is an age-old story that we sometimes see as historical and not relevant to each of us today.
Christmas reminds each of us that we have an opportunity for a second chance. We can make a powerful choice to stop repeating harmful habits that create suffering for ourselves and others. But this is not only a Christmas message, this opportunity is available for you every moment of your life. Actually, there are innumerable opportunities for change until you take your last breath. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
